BCC GOAT Gravel is NOT a race, and no timing devices will be provided.
This ride will be suited to gravel or mountain bikes - road bikes will not be suitable.
On this ride we will provide water, toilets, a snack and smiles at the 27km mark. At the 50km at Axedale there are more smiles, public toilets, water plus the Axedale Tavern and the General store offer coffee and some delicious country food.
Gravel riders really do support each other so if you see someone in trouble please stop and offer assistance. You never know a bike mechanic might be the person offering you help, after all there will be more than one on route!
There will be no closed roads for this ride - roads are open to the public, so please obey all road laws.
The ride is very diverse in terrain and consists of mainly gravel roads, but includes some single track and some bitumen near the start and finish.

Heading out the back way from the lovely rural township of Strathfieldsaye, the BCC GOAT Gravel Ride takes you through a small housing estate before hitting the gravel just 1,500 metres from the start. You will take in a few gentle climbs, passing farms with sheep, goats, and cows, give them a wave. You will then take on a short bitumen section before some lovely rolling climbs on gravel roads.
Turning left onto Emu Creek Road gives you a short climb and longer downhill on hard surface before heading toward bushland. The bush track will sharpen your skills with some gnarly downhills and a few sharp pinches on the climbs. Look out for the Aid Station and a smiling volunteer at 27km.
You will wind your way into Axedale at the 50km mark where you will find a toilet block, water, a shop, and pub with great coffee. You've done all the hard work so enjoy a break. Then it’s under the highway and along the lovely Campaspe River before climbing back toward Axedale. The course soon picks up the O'Keefe Rail Trail for a gentle ride back toward Bendigo.
Turn left onto Somerset Park Road, then right and down the hill turning into Sinclair’s Lane and left into Sullivans Road where you will follow the sealed bike path back to Braidie’s Tavern for a well-deserved drink and a meal. Don't be fooled, there is some work in this ride, but the scenery is simply awesome....enjoy!
