Hills and fantastic views!

Distance: 60km
Terrain: Undulating with some challenges
Time: 3 hrs

Leaving Bendigo’s beautiful Town Hall building, you head up Williamson Street turning right onto Hopper Street after the railway line, and left onto Mitchell Street heading towards Spring Gully passing some of Bendigo’s famous heritage homes. Gentle climbing up Burns Street and down Diamond Hill road really shows off the regions natural bushland and old gold mining ruins.

Expect to see dozens of Kangaroos as you make your way through the “Juvenile” and over the local water races. Left onto Springs Road really opens up the views. This area is stunning and will have you coming back for more! Continue on down Springs Road as you descend to Sedgwick.

Turning right onto Sutton Grange Road sees you passing some modern homes and the many farmlets in the area. You then make the short climb up our famous “Gooseneck” and then downhill to the left turn onto Axe Creek Road. Look for the modern castle on your right and stock grazing in the paddocks. Turn left at the local telephone exchange and cycle through more bushland to Emu Creek as you zigzag your way through to Strathfieldsaye joining the 35km and 25km rides for the journey back to Bendigo.

McIvor Road climbs slightly then you turn right with the traffic lights at the Powells Avenue/McIvor Road intersection. Turn left onto Strickland Road, then right onto Nolan Street opposite the local TAFE. Turn left onto Hargreaves Street just after the rail crossing, and return to the Town Hall by taking a left at Baxter Street, then right at Hopetoun Street. Enjoy a refreshing drink and celebrate completing the Challenge Classic at the ride after-party!
